🌱 How Our Baby Room Planning Supports Our Nursery Curriculum
Our baby room curriculum is the first stage of our whole-nursery learning journey. Each month follows the same themes as our older rooms — such as Belonging, Growth, and Caring for the Earth — but activities are specially adapted for babies through sensory exploration, nurturing relationships, and responsive care.
Every experience supports the Prime Areas of Learning from the EYFS:
Personal, Social & Emotional Development – building secure relationships and confidence.
Communication & Language – sharing stories, songs, and simple interactions.
Physical Development – strengthening bodies through movement and sensory play.
Our planning values the idea that care and education are inseparable. Everyday routines, like feeding or nappy changes, become rich opportunities for connection and communication. Outdoor play is woven into every month, allowing babies to explore nature, light, and sound safely.
This approach ensures that even our youngest children are developing curiosity, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging — forming the essential foundations for learning as they grow through the nursery.

🌿 How Our Two-Year-Old Planning Supports Our Nursery Curriculum
Our two-year-old curriculum builds on the foundations from the baby room and prepares children for the more structured learning in preschool. Each month follows the same whole-nursery themes — such as Belonging, Growth, and Imagination — but activities are designed specifically for two-year-olds through hands-on, play-based learning.
At this age, children learn best through repetition, exploration, and interaction. Our planning supports the Prime Areas of Learning within the EYFS:
Personal, Social & Emotional Development – developing independence, confidence, and early friendships.
Communication & Language – expanding vocabulary through stories, songs, and everyday conversation.
Physical Development – refining fine and gross motor skills through climbing, painting, pouring, and sensory play.
Each month also introduces aspects of the Specific Areas (Understanding the World, Expressive Arts & Design, Mathematics, Literacy) through simple, meaningful experiences — like planting seeds, exploring light and dark, or mark-making.
Outdoor play is central to our curriculum. Every plan includes outdoor activities that encourage movement, problem-solving, and a connection with nature. These experiences promote resilience, curiosity, and physical confidence — essential foundations for future learning.
Our two-year-old planning bridges the gap between care and education. It helps children learn to manage routines, express feelings, cooperate with others, and begin to understand the world around them — ensuring a smooth and confident transition into the preschool environment and the next stage of our nursery curriculum.

🌼 How Our Preschool Planning Supports Our Nursery Curriculum
Our preschool curriculum brings together everything children have learned in the baby and toddler rooms, guiding them toward school readiness through purposeful, play-based learning. The monthly themes — such as Belonging, Growth, Imagination, and Caring for the Earth — are consistent across the nursery, ensuring a clear progression of skills, knowledge, and confidence.
Preschool children build on the Prime Areas of Learning from the EYFS and deepen their understanding of the Specific Areas:
Personal, Social & Emotional Development – developing resilience, independence, and a positive sense of self.
Communication & Language – using language to explain ideas, solve problems, and share stories.
Physical Development – refining fine and gross motor control for writing, building, and self-care.
Literacy & Mathematics – recognising names, letters, numbers, and patterns through meaningful play.
Understanding the World & Expressive Arts and Design – exploring nature, culture, creativity, and technology through hands-on discovery.
Every monthly plan supports the characteristics of effective learning:
Playing and Exploring – through curiosity-led experiences.
Active Learning – by encouraging focus, persistence, and pride in achievement.
Creating and Thinking Critically – by planning, problem-solving, and reflecting on outcomes.
Outdoor play remains central, giving children opportunities to explore natural changes, test physical skills, and learn collaboratively. These experiences nurture curiosity, responsibility, and confidence — preparing children not only for school, but for lifelong learning.
Our preschool planning ensures that each child leaves nursery as a curious, capable, and confident learner, ready to take the next step in their educational journey.
